Bawston

As much as I want to go to Bawston (Boston), I have come to realize the reality of going. The cost is exponential. I got like $1 of loans (which means I have to pay that dolla back) and no financial aid so I must pay a $44,000 tuition per year. So... UW tuition is looking mighty fine at this point. But my parents are so chill about it and still want me to go. My dad said he'd pay for it and to stop worrying. I guess I'm the only one stressing? Even my mom wrote me an e-mail from the next room that simply said,

"you are bawston girl now."
she is the BEST mom in the world. And she forwarded me the following (which I think you should, I've read it 5 times already trying to get my pronunciation just right):

Welcome to Bawston

For those of you who have never been to "Bawstin", this is a good
guideline. I hope you will consider coming to "Beantown" in the near
future. For those who call New England home, this is just plain great!

Information on Boston and the surrounding area:

There's no school on School Street, no court on Court Street, no dock on
Dock Square, no water on Water Street.

Back Bay streets are in alphabetical "oddah": Arlington, Berkeley,!
Clarendon, Dartmouth, etc.

So are South Boston streets: A, B, C, D, etc. If the streets are named
after trees (e.g. Walnut, Chestnut, Cedar), you're on Beacon Hill.

If they're named after poets, you're in Wellesley.

Massachusetts Ave is Mass Ave; Commonwealth Ave is Comm Ave; South Boston
is Southie. The South End is the South End. East Boston is Eastie. The
North End is east of the former West End.

The West End and Scollay Square are no more; a guy named Rappaport got
rid of them one night.

Roxbury is The Burry, Jamaica Plain is J.P.

Definitions: Frappes have ice cream, milkshakes don't. If it is fizzy and
flavored, it's tonic. Soda is CLUB SODA. "Pop" is Dad. When we want Tonic
WATER, we will ask for Tonic WATER. The smallest beer is a pint. Scrod is
whatever they tell you it is, usually fish. If you paid more than
$6/pound, you got scrod. It's not a water fountain! ; it's a bubblah.
It's not a trashcan; it's a barrel. It's not a spucky it's a sub. It's
not a shopping cart; it's a carriage. It's not a purse; it's a pockabook.
They're not franks; they're haht dahgs. Franks are money in France.

Police don't drive patrol units or black and whites they drive a
"crooza". If you take the bus, your on the "looza crooza". It's not a
rubber band, it's an elastic. It's not a traffic circle, it's a rotary.
"Going to the islands" means Martha's Vineyard &Nantucket. If something's
good, it's "pissa". If something's really good, it's "wicked pissa".

Going to "The City" is going to Boston, despite what New Yorkers think,
it's not NYC!

The Pat's = The Patriots The Sox = The Red Sox The C's = The Celtics The
B's = The Bruins

Things not to do: Don't pahk your cah in Hahvid Yahd ... they'll tow it
to Meffa (Medford) or Slumaville (Somerville). Don't sleep in the Common.
(Boston Common) Don't wear Orange in Southie on St. Patrick's Day.

Things you should know: There are two State Houses, two City Halls, two
courthouses, two Hancock buildings (one old, one new for ach).

The colored lights on top the old Hancock tell the weatha': "Solid blue,
clear view...." "Flashing blue, clouds due...." "Solid red, rain
ahead...." "Flashing red, snow instead...." - (except in summer; flashing
red means the Red Sox game was rained out)

Route 128 is also I-95 south.? It's also I-93 north.

The underground train is not a subway. It's the "T"! , and it doesn't run
all night (this ain't Noo Yawk).

Order the "cold tea" in China Town after 2:00 am you'll get a kettle full
of beer.

Bostonians... think that it's their God-given right to cut off someone in
traffic.

Bostonians...think that there are only 25 letters in the alphabet (no
R's).

Bostonians...think that three straight days of 90+ temperatures is a heat
wave.

Bostonians...refer to six inches of snow as a "dusting."

Bostonians...always "bang a left" as soon as the light turns green, and
oncoming traffic always expects it.

Bostonians...say everything in town is "a five-minute walk." (pronounced
"wok")

Bostonians...believe that using your turn signal is a sign of weakness.

Bostonians...think that 63-degree ocean water is warm.

Bostonians...think Rhode Island accents are annoying.

How to say these Massachusetts city names correctly:
Wo! rcester: Wuhsta (or Wistah)
Gloucester : Glawsta
Leicester: Le sta
Woburn: Wooban
Dedham : Dedim (like denim)
Revere: Re-vee-ah
Quincy: Quinzee
Peabody: Peabuddy
Waltham : Walth-ham
Welcome to Bawston

Yeah, I can see myself there.
I am going to take pastor Michael advice and pray fervently.

Boxer

I have never been a big "dog" person, let alone an any animal, but lately I've wanted a dog. Not those small puff balls but like a BIG DOG. I think boxers are really cute.. my friend has one and it always jumps on you and sniffs you-- and although I claim to hate it, I've actually grown rather fond of it-- it's cute. Even though, I hate "dirty" things on my bed (ie: school clothes, unwashed people, food etc...) I think I would rather enjoy a boxer sitting on my bed. I don't know .. anyway, spring has alas arrived and I'm exited. I must get in shape soon so that I can wear my tennis outfit without shame. As soon as the season is over that means school will also end. Two months before graduation, two months! Along with prom, my birthday, gwen's birthday and then the last summer of my high school career. eeekz. Lately, I've had this feeling that I will be going to UW and I was rather upset until I heard this song called BOSTON by Augustana. And the lyrics fit perfectly how I feel and why I want to get out of Seattle, I don't really have anything here to keep me here (besides my family, friends and church). I just want to be on my own and see how it is. You can't do that when you're in your comfort zone. Not that I don't love this city, but I grew up here, and even though I don't "technically" know everybody, in a sense I do because everybody in the Seattle area is at most 2 degrees of separation. I love being a Seattlite, but I just want to be a Bostonian and pronounce clam chowder as "chowdair," live next to the Atlantic Ocean, and be a REX SOX fan. You just can't do that as a Seattlite. And after hearing this song (and continuously listening to it over and over again) I've started to look more optimistically about my future (because I almost want to take this as a sign that I'm meant for Boston) wheverer I end up. Not to mention the encouraging things people have said. Thanks in large part to having caught senioritis, I've been having an absolutely blissful week. Gosh, my high school days are dwindling down to nothing more than a mere 2.5 months.

I wish I could play this song on my xanga, but I don't know how. But here is the chorus, I've bracketed the part that would be altered so that it would better fit my situation, but you get the point.
"i think i'll go to boston. i think ill start a new life. start over. where no one knows my name. get out of california [washington], i'm tired. i think i'll get a lover and fly out to spain [france]. i think i need a new town-- to leave this all behind. boston. where no one knows my name."
          BOSTON, Augustana

Allons-y!

I just adore this photo. It just reminds me of the old days when me and Gwen were inseperable. I remember we used to go on the swings and just start cracking up and laughing-- like crazy, for no apparent reason. I remember exactly when this picture was taken, by whom and who was in this class. Last day of school, by Jason and Drue, and alot of people (most of whom I have already lost touch with). I remember her mother used to say, "Oh hi Lois, wow, you need to lose weight." And for twin day we wore that shirt she is wearing, from Mervans. Oh gosh, that was elementry school and now we are seniors in high school. I am always reminscing on the past-- but I like too. Oh yeah and we used to always make fun of EVERYONE, oh gosh but what were we thinking, look at us?!?!?

Me and my best friend Gwen in 4th grade. 1998. Miss Williams Class.

That is precisely why I am never cutting my hair short. Again.

I hate stupid pointless fights with your best friend. Or even ending a conversation on a bad note. It's so gee- bun- napuh. You know?

Anyway, the weather has been quite lovely and it makes me exited for spring. I am ready for  tennis season, I think-- short skirts and exercise. Time to get in shape and a tan.

I got accepted to college, at last! Yep, the anticipation (phase 1) is now over-- getting accepted, anywhere. Now, phase two: waiting for that special college, Boston College. I must wait until April-- and I will, patiently.
So now I have a UW email address and I just felt uplifted for some reason to know that this could be my e-mail address for the next four years. Even though just taking UW English allows me to have a UW email address, the fact that I got in and also have an e-mail address made me rather, jolly. Does that even make any sense? Probably not. Oh by the way, I got accepted to UW-- just for clarification.

I love when pointless fights with your best friend is resolved by getting a phone call from that friend. Not that you "won"-- even though you essentially did -- but to know the other person cares enough to call first.

Anyway, I hope you had a splendid week.

Random Pictures: [Although they are not really random, they all serve some kind of purpose]

That should be Washington Huskies, in case you did not know. I could be here this fall. . .

Hopefully I'll be there though, this fall.

Someday I'll be here, in the countryside of France.
